Karashash Ana Mausoleum

Karashash Ana Mausoleum is one of the important historical and religious monuments of the Turkistan region. It is located in the village of Sairam and is widely recognised as a sacred site visited by pilgrims.

The mausoleum is dedicated to Karashash Ana, the mother of the great Sufi thinker Khoja Ahmed Yasawi. According to historical sources, she was an educated, wise, and spiritually knowledgeable woman. Karashash Ana played a significant role in raising her son and had a strong influence on his spiritual development.

She is believed to have lived in the 11th–12th centuries. She was born and buried in Sairam. Her son, Khoja Ahmed Yasawi, became one of the most prominent religious figures in the Turkic world.

Over the centuries, the mausoleum has been highly revered and has become a place of pilgrimage. The structure has undergone several reconstructions. The present building reflects traditional Central Asian architectural style, built of fired brick and topped with a dome. The interior is relatively simple, with the burial chamber as the central element.

In local traditions, Karashash Ana symbolises maternal care, wisdom, and spiritual purity. She is regarded not only as a mother but also as a respected and insightful figure of her time. It is believed that she introduced her son to knowledge and religious values from an early age.

Today, Karashash Ana Mausoleum remains an important pilgrimage site. Visitors come here to pay their respects and seek spiritual peace. The site is included in the list of sacred places of the Turkistan region and forms part of tourist routes.
