The Shokan Ualikhanov Memorial Complex is an important historical and cultural site dedicated to the life and legacy of the outstanding Kazakh scholar, educator, ethnographer, and traveler Shokan (Muhammad-Kanafiya) Ualikhanov. The complex was opened in 1985 at the foothills of Altyn-Emel to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the scholar's birth. Today, it is one of the most significant memorial sites preserving and promoting the scientific and spiritual heritage of this remarkable researcher.

The memorial complex includes the scholar's gravestone, a monument, a house museum, a hotel, and a square with a pool. The central feature of the complex is the museum, which showcases the scientific, creative, and public activities of Shokan Ualikhanov. Visitors can explore materials highlighting his life journey, research achievements, travels, and contributions to the development of Kazakh science.

The museum's architecture is particularly distinctive. Its exterior design is inspired by the traditional Kazakh memorial architectural form known as "Tort Kulak" ("Four Ears"), while the interior resembles a traditional Kazakh yurt and a traveler's tent. This architectural concept reflects a harmonious blend of national traditions and modern design.

The complex houses exhibitions and memorial artifacts related to the scholar's life and work. Visitors can view Shokan Ualikhanov's scientific publications, archival documents, photographs, manuscripts, and other historical materials. The exhibitions provide insight into his famous journey to Kashgaria, his studies of the history and culture of Central Asian peoples, and his significant contribution to Kazakh ethnography and geography.

The design of the Shokan Ualikhanov Memorial Complex won second place and received a silver medal at the international architectural competition "Interarch" held in Sofia in 1987. This award became international recognition of the complex's architectural excellence and cultural significance.

Today, the memorial complex serves not only as a historical monument but also as an important educational and research center. Various cultural events, scientific meetings, guided tours, and educational programs are regularly organized here. The Shokan Ualikhanov Memorial Complex is both a tribute to one of the founders of Kazakh scholarship and a valuable part of Kazakhstan's historical and cultural heritage.
