The Kazakh alphabet is the writing system used for the Kazakh language. It has undergone several historical stages:
— Arabic script (until the 20th century)
— Latin script (1929–1940)
— Cyrillic script (since 1940)
Currently, Kazakhstan uses a Cyrillic-based alphabet consisting of 42 letters. A gradual transition to the Latin script is also underway.
The Kazakh alphabet is designed to accurately represent the sounds of the language and is an important part of national culture.
