On 15 January 2024, Vice-President of the European Commission Margaritis Schinas visited Astana.

During the visit, the European Commission representative held meetings with the Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Maulen Ashimbayev, Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov and Minister of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan Marat Karabayev.

During the meetings, the parties discussed the key points of cooperation between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the European Union in the field of transport and logistics, in particular, joint actions to develop the "Trans-Caspian International Transport Corridor", as well as other topical issues on the bilateral agenda.
