On June 20, 2026, the regular meeting of the heads of water management and energy agencies of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, and the Republic of Uzbekistan on water and energy cooperation was held in the city of Bishkek.
The Kazakhstani side was represented by the Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, N.M. Nurzhigitov, and the Vice Minister of Energy, S.S. Zharkeshov. The Kyrgyz side was led by the Minister of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic, A.D. Rysbekov. On behalf of the Uzbek side, the Minister of Water Management of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Sh.R. Khamraev, participated in the meeting.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the current water and energy situation in the region and agreed on concrete measures to ensure the necessary water releases during the vegetation period, as well as on mutual supplies of electricity. Following the negotiations, the parties signed a corresponding Protocol.
The participants of the meeting noted the favorable hydrological situation in the region and expressed confidence that the 2026 vegetation season will conclude successfully for all parties involved.
The parties agreed to hold their next meeting in August 2026.
