On March 25, 2026, representatives of the Otandastar Qory held an official meeting with the teams of the primary Kazakh-language media outlets in Mongolia – "Derbes" TV channel and the "Regional Public Radio" (Kazakh Radio). During the meeting, the current state, historical significance, and future development prospects of the Kazakh-language information space abroad were discussed.
Special attention was given to the "Regional Public Radio," founded in 1965. The first Kazakh-language broadcasts on Mongolian soil began as early as 1944, and on July 5, 1965, a dedicated radio station commenced operations in the city of Bayan-Ulgii. The radio became widely known among the public as "Togyzdyn Khabary" (The Nine O'clock News) because its broadcasts traditionally aired at 21:00. Currently, the station employs 18 specialists who promote Kazakh culture, literature, and art through programs such as "Zhaukazyn," "Dala Didary," "Auyl Madenieti," and "Adebiet."
The "Derbes" TV channel, founded in 2011, celebrates its 15th anniversary this year. Established as an independent media resource, the channel is currently facing significant operational challenges due to the economic impact of the pandemic and the shift of the advertising market to digital formats. Despite these obstacles, the TV channel's team continues to provide the Kazakh-speaking audience in Mongolia with high-quality information.
Following the meeting, the parties considered the following support mechanisms for these media resources: organizing specialized internships and exchange programs for television and radio journalists at leading media holdings in Kazakhstan; initiating the introduction of a special category for Kazakh-language media abroad within the framework of the "Urker" and "Tumar" national media awards, and other measures.
Representatives of the "Otandastar Foundation" noted that the development of Kazakh-language journalism abroad is key to preserving national identity and emphasized that further work will be conducted with relevant government authorities regarding the proposals discussed.
