30 May 2025

Under the chairmanship of State Counsellor of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerlan Karin was held  a regular meeting of the Commission on Citizenship under the President of Kazakhstan, reports Zakon.kz.

The meeting addressed issues related to the acquisition and renunciation of Kazakh citizenship.

During the session, the State Counsellor highlighted the steady growth in the credibility of Kazakhstani citizenship:

“The trend of a declining number of individuals seeking to renounce their citizenship continues. Over the past six years, there has been a consistent decrease in the number of people applying to renounce Kazakh citizenship. For instance, in 2019, there were 1,700 recorded cases of citizenship termination, while in 2020 — 944, in 2021 — 123, in 2022 — 114, in 2023 — 107, and in 2024 — only 77 individuals. Thus, over six years, the number of applications for renunciation of Kazakhstani citizenship has dropped 22-fold. These figures reflect the growing credibility of Kazakh citizenship and the increasing confidence of citizens in the country’s future.”
