Kazakh Cinema Days Held in Athens

29 May 2025

From 26 to 28 May 2025, Athens hosted the Kazakh Cinema Days. Greek audiences were introduced to a selection of films produced with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Kazakhfilm National Studio.

The festival program featured both iconic and contemporary Kazakh films highlighting the country's history, culture, and national heroes. The opening night featured a screening of the historical drama Tomiris, a film about the legendary Saka queen who became a symbol of independence and spiritual strength. The film generated significant interest among festival attendees, leading to discussions on a potential theatrical release in Greece.

The audience also enjoyed Dos-Mukasan, a film dedicated to the eponymous vocal-instrumental ensemble, and My Name is Kozha, a classic of Kazakh cinema restored at the Kazakhfilm studio’s production and technical facilities.

Screenings were accompanied by creative discussions with Kazakh actors and directors, as well as representatives of the Greek film industry. According to festival participants, such cultural exchanges serve as effective tools for strengthening bilateral relations between the peoples of Kazakhstan and Greece.

The Kazakh Cinema Days in Athens proved to be a vibrant cultural event that resonated strongly with Greek audiences and further enhanced cultural ties between the two nations.
