May 18 – International Museum Day

18 May 2025

Aida Balayeva, Minister of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan, congratulated citizens on the occasion of International Museum Day. In an official statement on her Facebook page, the Minister emphasized the vital role museums play in preserving the nation’s rich cultural, historical, and archaeological heritage.

“The museum collections of our country house over 4.5 million artifacts, including such unique items as the ‘Golden Man,’ the ‘Taksai Princess,’ and rare instruments crafted by the great masters Stradivari and Guarneri,” noted Aida Balayeva.

She also highlighted that, thanks to the support and commitment of the Head of State, two Kazakhstani museums were granted the status of “National” this year — the Central State Museum and the A. Kasteyev State Museum of Arts. This recognition reaffirms their significance and contribution to the development of the country’s cultural legacy.

In addition, the Minister noted that museums serve not only as repositories of cultural memory but also as research, educational, and restoration centers that foster dialogue between the past and the present. Last year alone, museums across Kazakhstan welcomed more than 6.6 million visitors.

“This year, we look forward to numerous important events — from joint projects with museums in China and Germany to a unique exhibition of Kazakhstani art at the Tretyakov Gallery.
I extend my sincere gratitude to all museum professionals for their dedicated work, creativity, and unwavering commitment to their vocation.
Happy International Museum Day, dear friends! May every museum visit be a journey of discovery!”

More details on the development of the museum sector were shared by Aida Balayeva in an interview with Tengrinews.
