VII International Puppet Theatre Festival "Orteke" to Be Held in Almaty from May 21 to 25, 2025

From May 21 to 25, 2025, Almaty will host the VII International Puppet Theatre Festival “Orteke.”

This celebration of the arts will showcase the finest productions by puppet theatres from Kazakhstan, Georgia, Turkey, and Azerbaijan, featuring performances for both children and adult audiences. The festival program will also include master classes and a round table discussion with leading actors and directors.

The event aims to promote professional puppet theatre, strengthen international cultural cooperation, and foster the development of the art form. The festival seeks to identify and encourage talented performers and directors, enhance professional and artistic skills, and support the growth of Kazakhstan’s national puppet theatre.

The festival program will feature the following events:

  • May 21 at 14:30 – Press conference for media representatives with participation from the jury and the Organizing Committee;

  • May 21 at 15:30 – Official opening ceremony of the festival;

  • May 21–25 – Performances of competitive and non-competitive productions;

  • May 25 at 16:00 – Official closing ceremony of the festival.

Competitive performances will take place on the stages of the Republican State Academic Korean Musical Comedy Theatre, the Almaty State Puppet Theatre, the Gabit Musrepov Kazakh State Academic Theatre for Children and Youth, and the Total Theatre. The competition entries will be evaluated by an international jury composed of prominent theatre professionals from Kazakhstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, and Turkey.
