Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Sayasat Nurbek, held a series of meetings in the United States aimed at strengthening strategic partnerships in higher education and science. One of the key outcomes was the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies at Harvard University.

The parties agreed to launch joint initiatives in academic and scientific fields. The memorandum provides for the organization of academic exchanges, including scholarships and research internships in areas such as history, politics, economics, sustainable development, and others. Scholars will be granted temporary access to Harvard University's library and archival resources as part of jointly implemented projects.

Special attention was given to the preservation and promotion of Kazakhstan’s historical heritage. In this context, a joint project with Harvard University’s Houghton Library was approved, focusing on the cataloging and digitization of the Kazakhstani collection of rare books and manuscripts. The program includes the development of a digital database, which will be accessible to researchers and students, as well as the exchange of expertise between library and archive professionals from Kazakhstan and the United States in the areas of preservation, cataloging, and the study of rare editions.

The collaboration also envisions exhibitions and cultural events dedicated to the Kazakhstani collection, aimed at drawing attention to the country’s rich cultural and historical legacy. In addition, the parties discussed the possibility of developing academic courses based on materials from the rare books collection for students at Kazakhstani universities and researchers.

An important aspect of the partnership will be the provision of access to the Houghton Library's digital database for Kazakhstani educational and research institutions. This will significantly enhance the resources available for scientific research and academic learning. The memorandum also includes support for research projects and scholarly publications based on materials from the Kazakhstani collection, contributing to a deeper understanding of Kazakhstan’s history and culture.

The signed agreement opens new horizons for bilateral cooperation, facilitates the exchange of advanced academic expertise, and contributes to the development of science and higher education in Kazakhstan.
