Astana, May 7, 2025 – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Murat Nurtleu, held a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Bui Thanh Son.
The two officials discussed the current state and future prospects of Kazakh-Vietnamese cooperation in political, trade and economic, investment, and cultural-humanitarian domains.
Mr. Nurtleu emphasized that Astana views Hanoi as one of its key partners in Southeast Asia, with whom it maintains close and friendly ties.
“We attach particular importance to the state visit of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, To Lam, to Kazakhstan. The adoption of the historic Joint Statement on the Establishment of a Strategic Partnership undoubtedly marks a new and significant milestone in our bilateral relations,” the Kazakh Foreign Minister stated.
He reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s commitment to the high-level agreements reached and highlighted the importance of the ambitious objective to increase bilateral trade turnover to USD 2 billion in the coming years. In this context, the establishment of a Kazakhstan–Vietnam Strategic Council was proposed to ensure comprehensive coordination in advancing bilateral cooperation.
The Vietnamese Foreign Minister confirmed Vietnam’s readiness to further strengthen the strategic partnership in the spirit of friendship and trust and extended an invitation to the Kazakh side to visit Hanoi with a business delegation.
The ministers also exchanged views on current international issues and noted the alignment of positions held by Kazakhstan and Vietnam on the majority of regional and global matters. They underscored their successful collaboration within international organizations, including the United Nations, the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides agreed to maintain regular contact and continue promoting cooperation across all areas of mutual interest.
