Kazakh Student Named Top Linguist in the Asia-Pacific Region

The Asia Pacific Linguistics Olympiad (APLO) 2025 has concluded, according to Kazinform, citing the press service of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

This prestigious intellectual competition brought together approximately 500 talented high school students from 12 Asia-Pacific countries, including China, Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Iran, South Korea, Singapore, and Thailand.

Following the results of the competition, Ramazan Butantaev, a student of the specialized IT lyceum in the Mangystau Region, delivered an outstanding performance and was named the overall winner of the Olympiad. He outperformed the region’s strongest participants and was awarded a gold medal.

Kazakhstan’s national team achieved a record-breaking result in the history of its participation in linguistic olympiads, securing a total of five medals and three honorary mentions:

Temirlan Seitbattal — Grade 11, Bilim-Innovation Lyceum (BIL), Akmola Region

Shyngys Karasaev — Grade 11, NIS, Uralsk

Aron Khasanov — Grade 11, BIL, Atyrau

The head coach of Kazakhstan’s national linguistics team is Aida Davletova, a prizewinner of international and national olympiads in linguistics and geography, and currently a second-year student at Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen.

The Asia Pacific Linguistics Olympiad (APLO) is an international intellectual competition in linguistics for high school students, serving as a gateway to the International Linguistics Olympiad (IOL). The Olympiad is designed to foster logical reasoning, linguistic intuition, and intercultural competence. Participation in APLO not only allows students to test themselves on an international level but also provides a platform to gain recognition within academic and professional circles.
