The international conference on family and demographic policy: "Family is the basis for sustainable demographic development of Kazakhstan" was held in Astana with the participation of scientists and experts from Austria, Turkey, Hungary, Czech Republic and Russia, as well as members of the Parliament of Kazakhstan, representatives of central and local executive bodies, NGOs and international organisations.

The experts discussed topical issues related to the demographic situation of Kazakhstan, positive trends, challenges of demographic development of the country, forecasting and specifics of family and demographic development of regions.

"In 2021, we achieved the highest birth rate in the last 34 years. The total fertility rate is 3.3, which exceeds the level of simple replacement of the population. Over the past 10 years, the population has grown by about 3 million people. It is expected that by the end of 2023 the population of Kazakhstan will reach 20 million people. In this regard, the Head of State challenges us to turn current demographic trends into competitive advantages. The high birth rate we have seen in recent years should not affect the quality of our human capital. Creating conditions for the favourable development of the institution of the family, ensuring a decent life and employment are the main aspects on which efforts are directed", - said the Chairman of the National Commission on Women's Affairs and Family and Demographic Policy under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Minister of Culture and Information Aida Balayeva, addressing the participants of the event.

Let's add that in Kazakhstan the increase in life expectancy of the population is fixed. The indicator in 2022 was 74.4 years. At the same time in the structure of the population there is an increase in the share of young people. The average age of citizens of the country is 32 years. The share of young people is about 30 per cent. This trend, known as "youth overhang", will continue to increase further.
