The Government of Kazakhstan approved the National Project "Affordable Internet". The corresponding decree was signed by the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov.

The National Project was adopted in fulfilment of the instructions of the Head of State on the development of the Internet industry of the Republic. Its key goal is to provide the population with broadband access to the World Wide Web at a speed of at least 100 Mbit/s.

The National Project "Affordable Internet" covers the period from 2024 to 2027, and more than 1.5 trillion tenge will be used for its implementation. It is worth noting that most of this amount - over 1.3 trillion tenge - represents extra-budgetary funds.

Within the framework of the project, significant funds will be allocated for the development of wired and wireless communication infrastructure. The main emphasis will be placed on the construction of an extensive network of fibre-optic communication lines in rural areas. Thus, through the mechanism of public-private partnership it is planned to install relevant communication lines in more than 3 thousand villages.
In general, through the support of small and medium-sized telecom operators, high-speed internet will be brought to 400,000 households. Of the total investment by private operators of 92 billion tenge, half will be returned by the state in the form of subsidies for capital expenditures.

The National Project also includes the construction of digital infrastructure for mobile Internet coverage of republican and major regional motorways. In particular, it is planned to install 487 antenna-mast structures. This will make it possible to cover 17,000 km of motorways with mobile Internet.

Another direction will be further deployment of 5G network. As of today, 605 base stations have already been installed. By the end of 2025 it is planned to introduce 5G technology in all cities of republican significance and regional centres. Within the framework of this work, investments of telecom operators will amount to about 300 billion tenge.

Within the framework of the national project, measures are planned for the construction of large data processing centres and the laying of cross-border fibre optic backbones. The legislation will also be updated to attract leading international IT companies to the country.

In general, the implementation of the national project will make it possible to bring the level of high-speed internet coverage of Kazakhstanis to 100% by 2027 and strengthen the country's position as a regional digital hub.
