19 December, 2023

Nurzhan Nurzhigitov, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation of Kazakhstan, met with Monika Iversen, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to Kazakhstan.

Nurzhan Nurzhigitov noted the positive experience of Kazakhstan in working with German organisations. For example, in October, the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of Kazakhstan and the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) signed an agreement on the implementation of a regional programme on "Water Resources Management in Central Asia taking into account climate impact".

Mrs Ambassador, in turn, noted that companies from Germany are interested in working in Kazakhstan. And domestic farmers are interested in modern German irrigation technologies.

The discussion also covered the training of personnel for the water industry in Kazakhstan. Thus, the Kazakh-German University has an educational programme "Integrated Water Resources Management". In addition, Monika Iversen expressed readiness to help the Ministry to establish contacts with higher education institutions in Germany.

"I hope the next meeting will be already at the level of experts to determine the exact directions of our co-operation. We are open to joint work and for the sake of achieving our goals we are ready to co-operate with both German governmental bodies and German business", - emphasised the Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Nurzhan Nurzhigitov.
