On 13 January at the EXPO Congress Centre in Astana and on 21 January at the Palace of the Republic in Almaty, a concert of the popular South Korean singer Song WonSub, whose work unites two cultures, will be held.
Song WonSub is not only popular in his country, but also has a huge audience outside of South Korea, including in Kazakhstan.
His creative journey began with a cover performance of Batyrkhan Shukenov's song "Rain" in Korean, which caused a huge resonance among his listeners and subscribers and became the starting point of his work in Kazakhstan. As a YouTube blogger, he recorded reactions to performances by Kazakhstani artists such as Dimash Kudaibergenov and the band Ninety One, allowing him to delve deeper into Kazakhstan's musical culture.
Song WonSub is learning the Kazakh language and learning to play the dombra, which is a source of sincere respect and admiration for Kazakh listeners.
In his programme, the artist, who performs world hits in Kazakh and songs of Kazakh performers in Korean, will present his works to the Kazakh audience, including compositions "Zymyran" by Miras Zhugunusov, "Taptym-au senı" by Kazybek Kuraish, "Syğan serenadasy" by Shamshi Kaldayakov, "Va-bank" - the soundtrack to a Korean dorama in Kazakh.
The solo concert of a South Korean performer is a vivid example of how to promote the Kazakh language on a global scale, drawing the attention of foreign artists and spectators to the richness and diversity of Kazakhstan's culture. Such artists help strengthen international ties and allow the Kazakh language to become part of the global cultural palette, opening new horizons for exploring and understanding the diversity of world culture.
