Minister of Tourism and Sports Yermek Marzhikpaev met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to the ROK Jo Dae-ik.

Athletes of the two countries take an active part in competitions at various levels and hold joint training camps. In July 2023, in Poren Kazakh athletes held a training camp in boxing (women).

In turn, in 2023, athletes of the Republic of Korea took part in the Asian Athletics Championships and the Asian Wrestling Championships. In August 2023, Korean athletes participated in the 2023 WTT Contender Almaty International Table Tennis Tournament.

The Minister expressed interest in establishing cooperation between sports educational institutions of the two countries, holding friendly soccer matches, studying experience in the field of sports nutrition and sports medicine, as well as conducting internships for Kazakhstani specialists in the study of professional sports in the field of biomechanics, psychology and physiology.

"The Republic of Korea is a sporting powerhouse, thanks to important factors such as a large number of sports fans and effective investment. It is important for us to establish close contacts and learning experiences between the industry federations of the two countries. We are ready to offer Korean athletes training Republican Olympic training bases.

In my turn, I would like to note that in September 2024, Kazakhstan will host the V World Nomad Games. It is tentatively planned that over 3,000 athletes from more than 100 countries will participate. The traditional Korean wrestling "ssirim" was included in the program of the Games. I invite the Korean delegation and athletes to take part in this major event", Yermek Marzhikpayev said.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Korea expressed his gratitude for the meeting and assured of the interest in mutual cooperation. In his speech, the Ambassador wished good luck in holding the World Nomad Games and noted that there are many points of contact between our countries in the field of tourism and sports, which are developing every year.

Also during the meeting, representatives of the two countries discussed the upcoming Winter Youth Olympic Games, which will be held in Gangwon, shared their expectations from these competitions and from the performance of athletes from Kazakhstan.
