Kazakh scientists assume that one of the plates of petroglyphs in the Arkharly Mountains (near Taldykorgan) depicts a scene of an epic battle from the times of the early Turkic Kaganate. The image shows a battle of a group of mounted horsemen holding banners. ‘Nearby was found synchronous in time tamga of the Ashina family - the first rulers of the Turkic Kaganate. So, the scene can be dated to the 7th century AD,’ Alexander Goryachev, a leading researcher at the A.H. Margulan Institute of Archaeology, told a lecture in Almaty. A. H. Margulan. Perhaps it is the battle of the Turks with the Jujans - one of the first battles that led to the birth of the state of the Turkic Kaganate - or another, but extremely important for the Turkic history battle of the very beginning of the Turkic statehood.

Throughout 2018-2021, scientists and volunteers have repeatedly drawn attention to this issue: meeting with the press, working with local residents and authorities. Majilis deputy Zhanarbek Ashimzhan and public figure Mukhtar Taizhan got involved in saving Arkharla. As a result, in 2021 the archaeological complex was taken under protection by the state.

Galymzhan Ospanov, director of the Centre for the Protection of Historical and Cultural Heritage of Zhetysu Region, noted that the Arkharly complex has a huge tourist and educational potential and can become a new bright spot in the cultural and tourist space of Kazakhstan.
