Kazakhstan produces 19 types of essential raw materials approved by the European Union

06 February, 2024

Our world is striving for global energy and digital development, and therefore the world market demand for essential raw materials is growing.
Kazakhstan produces and processes 19 types of essential raw materials approved by the European Union.

Raw materials produced in Kazakhstan are transported to the USA, PRC, South Korea, UK, RF and EU countries.

Today, Kazakhstan's producers supply the European market with metal and chemical products such as beryllium, tantalum, titanium, ammonium metavanadate and phosphorus.

Kazakhstan is among the top 10 countries in the world in terms of copper production. There are opportunities in Kazakhstan to organise a cluster to produce battery raw materials such as nickel, cobalt, manganese and lithium. These precursors will be the main source of raw materials for the growing production of electric vehicles.

One of the major problems of the rare metals industry is its dependence on imported raw materials. Also, the development of the production of the most important raw materials is hindered by the wear and tear of the technologies and equipment of enterprises.
The main problematic issues are reflected in a comprehensive plan for the development of the rare earth metals industry for 2024-2028, developed based on the instruction of the Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev within the framework of the Address to the People of Kazakhstan "Economic benchmark of Fair Kazakhstan".

The Comprehensive Plan was approved by the Government Decree dated 28 December 2023.

The Ministry of Industry is working on solving the set tasks for the next five years.
