From 7 to 14 July in the capital of Kazakhstan will be held the 35th International Biology Olympiad IBO-2024. Chairman of the Committee of Secondary Education Kanybek Zhumashev told about it at a briefing in the Central Communications Service under the President of Kazakhstan.

The International Biology Olympiad (IBO) is the highest competition among secondary school students from different countries and one of the largest events in the field of education. Kazakhstani students have been participating in the scientific competition since 1996. During this time they have won 2 gold, 20 silver, 54 bronze medals and 14 honourable mentions, which is considered to be high. Therefore, the choice of Kazakhstan as a venue for such a prestigious event is not accidental.

It is expected that 350 schoolchildren from 80 countries will take part in this year's Olympiad. More than 40 awards will be played for them. The national team of our country will be represented by four schoolchildren.

"Since the beginning of the academic year, a lot of work has been done to prepare Olympiad tasks at an international level. They cover various areas, including biochemistry, molecular biology, bioinformatics, anatomy and physiology of animals. Today Kazakhstan's Olympic biology team is actively preparing for the upcoming competitions, and the Daryn Centre is holding training camps. As part of the Olympiad for Kazakhstani teachers will be held master classes, seminars on solving the Olympiad problems in biology and scientific conferences by leading scientists of the world," - said the chairman of the Committee.

Recall, in November last year held a meeting of the Minister of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan Gani Beisembayev with the Chairman of the International Organising Committee IBO Lenka Libusova. The parties discussed issues of organisation of intellectual competition, and also prospects of development of Kazakhstan education.

In general, according to the results of 2023 at international Olympiads our schoolchildren won 580 medals, including 23 medals in the seven most prestigious world Olympiads: IMO, IPhO, IBO, IOL, IShO, IGeO, IOI. They were given one-time monetary awards: gold - 1500 MRP, silver - 1000 MRP, bronze - 500 MRP, as well as to the teachers who prepared them in the amount from 8.5 to 26.5 times of the basic official salary.
