On 6 February this year, the Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Almasadam Satkaliev met with the British Ambassador Catherine Leach and the British delegation on climate issues in Central Asia.
Within the framework of the meeting the British side presented the UK Programme Fund on climate, energy and water security for Central Asia with a total amount of funding of 19-20 million pounds for a 3-year period.
The British delegation got acquainted with Kazakhstan's plans on gradual decarbonisation of the economy within the framework of the objectives of the Strategy for achieving carbon neutrality by 2060. The British government is ready to develop joint projects in the areas of renewable energy (wind and solar energy), strengthening of electric networks, transition of coal-fired plants to gas, research in the field of hydrogen energy, biogas and carbon capture technologies (CCUS).
The decision announced by the President of Kazakhstan Tokayev K.K. at COP-28 in December 2023 to join the Global Methane Commitment significantly expands opportunities for attracting financing for low-carbon technology projects. The British side noted the importance and timeliness of Kazakhstan's accession to this global initiative.
At the end of the meeting, the British delegation thanked the Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan for the productive dialogue.
