23 February, 2024

Minister of Industry and Construction of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kanat Sharlapaev met with representatives of the leading French concern Air Liquide.

The discussion focused on the most important aspects of the development of investment projects in the petrochemical industry, including the key project to install hydrogen production on the territory of the Pavlodar Petrochemical Plant (Pavlodar Petrochemical Plant).

As part of the implementation of the order of the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, given on February 7 at an expanded meeting of the Government to provide support to large investors, the Ministry of Industry and Construction of the Republic of Kazakhstan took active measures to promote the development of the most important investment projects in the Republic.

Frederic Depriot, Vice President of the French concern, raised a number of technical issues that require attention. The head of the industrial and construction department, in turn, expressed his readiness to provide all possible assistance to accelerate the implementation of this strategic project, emphasizing his commitment to supporting innovative initiatives in the sector.

The customer of the project is Air Liquide Munai Tech Gases LLP, a joint venture between Air Liquide Eastern Europe S.A. and KazMunayGas – Refining and Marketing JSC, where the share of participation is 25% from KMG and 75% from Air Liquide. This project will complement the existing hydrogen plant at the Pavlodar Petrochemical Plant, increasing production capacity to 12,500 m³/h of hydrogen.

Minister Kanat Sharlapaev expressed confidence in the successful implementation of the project and instructed industry departments to intensify work on solving current problems to further promote the initiative.

Hydrogen plays a key role in the production of petroleum products such as gasoline, diesel fuel and jet fuel. It is used at Pavlodar Petrochemical Plant for fuel hydrotreating, which helps reduce sulfur content and improve product quality, and also helps protect the environment.
