Kazakhstan and Japan Hold First Joint Committee Meeting on the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM). The first meeting of the Joint Committee on the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) between Kazakhstan and Japan took place today, marking a historic milestone in bilateral cooperation on climate change mitigation.
The meeting was attended by Kazakhstan’s Minister of Ecology, Yerlan Nysanbayev, alongside high-ranking officials, including Japan’s Ambassador to Kazakhstan, Yasumasa Iijima, and Kazakhstan’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alibek Bakaev.
The JCM is a mechanism established under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, designed to reduce carbon footprints and promote sustainable development by exchanging advanced technologies and joint projects.
In 2023, Kazakhstan and Japan signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the JCM, opening new avenues for investment and implementing cutting-edge Japanese technologies in Kazakhstani enterprises.

Participants also discussed prospective projects aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions, as well as the process for issuing carbon credits within the JCM framework.
The Joint Committee reaffirmed its commitment to further cooperation and project implementation.
