The 69th meeting of the international club of ski journalists SCIJ (The Ski Club of International Journalists) opened in Almaty at the Shymbulak mountain resort. This year, Kazakhstan, as the organizing country, is hosting 150 journalists from about 30 countries.
The meeting was opened by the Vice Minister of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan Serik Zharaspayev.
“We are pleased to welcome you to a unique event - the Ski Club of International Journalists. This wonderful event is designed not only to unite professionals from different countries, but also to provide a unique opportunity to get acquainted with the beauties of our country. By receiving guests from around the world, Kazakhstan has the opportunity to declare itself as a promising ski destination,” noted S. Zharaspayev.
From March 3 to 10, participants will have training and competitions in alpine and cross-country skiing, discussions on professional topics, useful meetings and, of course, acquaintance with the culture and cuisine of Kazakhstan. The general partner of SCIJ in hosting the meeting is the National Company “Kazakh Tourism”. The event takes place as part of the 70th anniversary of the Shymbulak mountain resort with the support of the Akimat of Almaty.
The international club of ski journalists SCIJ has existed for almost 70 years and unites more than 3 thousand journalists from 31 countries. Since then, traditional meetings of club members have been held every year at the best mountain resorts in the world. 74 countries have already hosted skiing journalists.
Kazakhstan's history in SCIJ dates back to 2012, when the country first took part in the club's annual meeting in Turkey as a guest.And since 2013, the Kazakh team of three people was officially accepted into the SCIJ at a meeting in Italy. Over the 10 years of existence of the SCIJ Kazakhstan club, the number of participants has grown to 48 people.
The main goal of the Kazakhstan club is to promote an active lifestyle, involve journalists, and through them the population, in winter sports, promote the tourism potential of Kazakhstan in the international arena, as well as information about the achievements of our country through publications in the media by journalists participating in events.
