Google Street View in Kazakhstan

28 March, 2024

Kazakhstan is distinguished by such different and such beautiful nature. From snow-capped mountains to the Caspian Sea and the futuristic skyline of Astana, one of the largest countries in Central Asia amazes not only with natural but also cultural diversity, allowing you to plunge into history and at the same time be imbued with innovation. Now you too can immerse yourself in this unique combination of tradition and modern spirit, because we are launching Street View in Kazakhstan!

“Our partnership with Google to introduce Street View in Kazakhstan is a big step forward. Technical work on the terrain, roads and 360 shooting was carried out by the Kazakh company Kazaerospace, becoming an official partner of google street view, which is also a plus for our country. Because most people here use smartphones and Google products like YouTube and Gmail. We recently launched YouTube Premium, and now we're announcing a new Google service. The addition of Street View enriches our country by improving navigation, boosting tourism and giving everyone a virtual tour of our beautiful landscapes and cities. This changes the rules of the game for both residents and guests, making Kazakhstan more accessible and attractive to the whole world,”- said Bagdat Musin, Minister of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

To capture all the beauty of Kazakhstan, we used specially designed trackers mounted on pickup trucks, which allowed us to easily move along any type of road. Street View vehicles have traveled over 42,000 kilometers (longer than the length of the equator!), traversing busy cities and driving through the breathtaking landscapes of Kazakhstan. Now residents of the country, as well as people from all over the world, can virtually explore a variety of places, for example, the cities of Semey, Kokshetau, Aktobe, Almaty, Konaev and others.

“The launch of Google Street View in Kazakhstan will significantly increase and provide additional capabilities on Google Maps, which will greatly benefit small and medium-sized businesses. Our experience in many markets shows that Google Street View contributes to driving tourism as tourists research where they want to visit before deciding to travel. For us, the launch is an opportunity to show all the beauty, diversity, depth of culture and natural wealth of Kazakhstan,” Olga Skorokhodova, head of government relations and public policy at Google in Central Asia.
When our Street View vehicles crossed Kazakhstan, they followed in the footsteps of the merchants of the Great Silk Road, which served as a center of trade and cultural exchange. By updating images of routes around cities such as Sary-Agash, Shymkent and Taraz, which played a key role on the trade route, we are contributing to the digital transformation and economic development of Kazakhstan, making this information accessible to businesses and transport service providers.

The images show how the Silk Road developed and how it remains a key route for business and freight today.

As you travel through the mesmerizing cities and landscapes of Kazakhstan, Street View allows you to virtually wander the bustling streets of Almaty from the comfort of your couch or admire the city's architectural gems, such as the Aktobe Central Mosque.

With the help of Street View, you can get acquainted with the life of a modern city: virtually explore the surroundings of such architectural wonders of Astana, such as the Baiterek monument and observation tower, the Khan Shatyr entertainment center in the form of an open tent and the futuristic Nur Alem museum. In Temirtau, Street View offers a glimpse into the country's industrial heritage through the example of the Metallurgists' Palace of Culture, also known as the Temirtau Palace of Culture.

Street View has become a favorite Google Maps feature in more than 100 countries around the world.
It helps people research vacation spots, check out a new neighborhood to see what's nearby, or see if it's convenient to park at a new restaurant.
Kazakhstan is rich in culture, and we're excited to help Street View travelers immerse themselves in the region's history and virtually explore the best the country has to offer today.
