Kazakhstan to celebrate Tazy and Tobet Dogs Day

03 February 2025

The Ministry of Ecology has prepared draft amendments to the list of holidays in the Republic of Kazakhstan, reports Zakon.kz.

In the list of festive dates plan to add:

Day of Kazakh breeds of dogs - the third of September.
‘Tazy and tobet - the original Kazakh breeds of dogs, the pride of the Kazakh people, one of the seven riches of ‘Zheti kazyna’. Tazy dogs are indispensable helpers of man on hunting and tobets - a tireless guardian of herds and property of our ancestors, - it is told in the substantiation to the project.

According to the explanatory note, establishing the Day of Kazakh breeds of dogs can become an important step in strengthening interest to the national cultural heritage, history and traditions of the Kazakh people.

By holding events dedicated to this day, it is possible to attract the attention of tourists interested in the ethnography and culture of Kazakhstan. The development of cynology and related industries will open new opportunities to create jobs and increase tax revenues, which contributes to economic growth and social stability.

The Day of Kazakh Dog Breeds could be accompanied by lectures, seminars, exhibitions and events on the history, features and care of these breeds, which would raise general awareness.

Also, the approval of the holiday will create more opportunities for breeders, cynological organisations and amateurs of Kazakh breeds to exchange experience, and participate in exhibitions, competitions and other events.

The date of 3 September was chosen for the establishment of the holiday not by chance. It was on this day in 2024 that the International Cynological Federation (FCI) made a decision to provisionally recognise the Kazakh Tazy as an official Tazy breed and consolidated the status of Kazakhstan as a holder of the Tazy breed standard.

The developers claim that the adoption of the project will not entail negative socio-economic or other legal consequences, as well as will not affect the national security and will not require additional expenditures from the state budget.

The draft is posted on the ‘Open Legal Acts’ portal for public discussion until 17 February 2025.
