Minister of Industry and Construction of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kanat Sharlapaev, held a meeting with the Special Advisor to the Prime Minister of Japan and Member of the House of Representatives, Akihisa Nagashima.
The meeting was aimed at discussing opportunities for further cooperation in the field of critical minerals, seismic safety issues, and risk assessment of natural disasters.
Japan is one of Kazakhstan’s key trade and economic partners in Asia and ranks among the top 10 largest foreign investors in the country, with a total investment volume exceeding USD 7.8 billion.
Regarding industrial goods, the trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Japan from January to November 2024 amounted to USD 1.6 billion.
Cooperation in the mining and metallurgical sector is of strategic importance to both countries and continues to develop in various directions. Among Kazakhstan’s key export products to Japan are ferroalloys, tantalum, and aluminum.
Kazakhstan and Japan also collaborate in the field of seismic safety. Within the framework of cooperation with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), specialists from JSC KazNIISA have successfully completed advanced training on seismic safety and risk assessment of natural disasters.
To further develop partnerships with Mitsui & Co., Ltd., a visit is planned to study advanced methods of seismic platform manufacturing and the integration of modern seismic isolation systems into construction projects.
