President - Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev took part in the opening ceremony of the National Guard air base in Astana.

The head of state congratulated the event participants on the upcoming Defender of the Fatherland Day. He emphasized that this is a significant holiday that awakens patriotic feelings and increases morale, and the Armed Forces of Kazakhstan are a reliable shield of the interests of our sovereign country, an unshakable pillar of peace and stability.

“The opening of the air base is the most important event not only for the National Guard, but for our entire army. The air base will significantly increase the potential of law enforcement agencies and provide opportunities for operational aviation sorties. The state pays close attention to equipping the Armed Forces and developing military infrastructure,” said Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

The President separately noted that during unprecedented floods in our country, military personnel were on the front line, thereby demonstrating a vivid example of loyalty to their oath.

– I would especially like to note the professionalism and high class of our military pilots. They were able to deliver humanitarian supplies to the affected areas in a timely manner and without loss, and ensure the evacuation of citizens to safe places. “I express my sincere gratitude to all the military personnel who were with the people during difficult times,” said the Head of State.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev drew special attention to the fact that real professionals serve in the ranks of our army.He recalled that Kazakhstani military personnel successfully participate in various international missions under the auspices of the UN. This year, for the first time, they began to independently carry out tasks in the Golan Heights.
This clearly demonstrates the high level of training of our troops and the growing authority of Kazakhstan on the world stage.

– Our people have always honored valiant warriors. At a meeting of the National Kurultai in Atyrau, I instructed to name the air base of the Kazakhstan Air Defense Forces in Taldykorgan after our compatriot, twice Hero of the Soviet Union Sergei Lugansky. The bright life of the legendary Almaty pilot should become an example for future generations. Of course, this decision will help increase the authority of the Kazakh army. The exploits of the defenders of the Motherland will never be forgotten,” said the Head of State.

The President emphasized that the military personnel continue the glorious path of our brave warriors and wise ancestors, and wished them success in serving for the benefit of our Motherland.

During the event, the Head of State was shown samples of new aviation, combat and special equipment of the Armed Forces and other military formations.

In addition, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev inspected a number of infrastructure facilities at the airbase. As the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs - Commander-in-Chief of the National Guard Erkin Botakanov reported, all conditions have been created at the base to carry out the relevant combat missions.

The President left an entry in the Book of Honored Guests in the Hall of Fame of the military town.The location of the airbase near Astana airport will allow for the timely delivery of personnel and equipment, as well as provide air support for National Guard units conducting aerial reconnaissance and evacuating casualties.
