The main areas of cooperation between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan were discussed

Minister of Transport Marat Karabaev held a working meeting with the Minister of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan Ilkhom Makhkamov

During the meeting, the main areas of cooperation, the possibility of its further intensification, as well as the implementation of joint projects in the areas of development of international transport corridors, railway and road transport, and construction of transport infrastructure were discussed.

In particular, today work is underway to implement the project “Construction of a new railway line Darbaza - Maktaaral”. The implementation of the project will increase the throughput capacity between the two countries by another 10 million tons.

Speaking about cooperation in the field of road transport, it should be noted that road transport between countries is carried out on the basis of the Intergovernmental Agreement on International Road Transport.

“The volume of export-import transportation by road over the past year increased by 6% and amounted to 1.8 million tons. In general, there is a positive dynamics in the development of cooperation in the field of road transportation,” noted Marat Karabaev.

Civil aviation is the flagship of the transport and logistics hub. Currently, there are 37 flights per week between the cities of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. Last year, negotiations between the aviation authorities of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan took place in Tashkent.During the negotiations, the parties discussed a further increase in the number of flights and expansion of the geography of flights, and also agreed to increase the number of permitted flights by more than 2 times on the routes Astana - Tashkent from 12 to 36 flights per week, Almaty - Tashkent from 20 to 36 flights per week, and on other routes up to 4 flights per week.

Regarding the construction of the Termez-Mazar-i-Sharif-Kabul-Peshawar railway, the Kazakh side supports the initiative of Uzbekistan. Kazakhstan is ready to participate in the implementation of this project by providing materials for the superstructure of railway tracks.

“I am convinced that the implementation of the project will contribute to the development of regional communications and trade for the countries of Central Asia, as access to major seaports of the South Asian region will open,” the head of the department shared.

In general, the transportation and transit of goods between the two countries by road is carried out on a permit-free basis in accordance with the Intergovernmental Agreement.

Following the meeting, the parties signed a Roadmap for the development of strategic cooperation in the field of transport and logistics between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan for 2024-2025.
