For the first time in Kazakhstan on the basis of the National Scientific Center for Agricultural Surgery named after. A.N. Syzganov, under the leadership of the Chairman of the Board, Professor Bolatbek Baimakhanov, performed cross-transplantation of kidneys in adult patients.

Cross transplantation is the transplantation of an organ from at least two incompatible pairs in a cross way. This operation is performed on the principle of donor exchange: if a related donor does not suit the recipient for medical reasons, another donor with the same problem is selected.

In the context of a shortage of donor organs throughout the world and, in particular, in our country, alternatives are altruistic donation, ABO-incompatible, cross-over kidney transplantation.

Now similar operations have been put into practice in our republic. Cross transplantation was performed between two couples - husband-wife and mother and daughter, who were not compatible with each other by blood type. These patients were on program hemodialysis for many years.

Unfortunately, patients cannot remain on hemodialysis for a long time, since over time their condition progressively worsens, because hemodialysis is not an alternative to a donor organ.

In this case, the most appropriate decision was to perform a cross-transplantation of the kidney between these couples. After a thorough examination, compatibility assessment and registration of all consents between patients, two kidney transplants were successfully performed within two days, both kidneys took root safely.

The health indicators of both patients are rapidly improving and they are preparing for discharge.
