There are 17 special libraries for blind and visually impaired citizens in Kazakhstan, including 1 republican, 7 regional, 4 city, 2 branches and 3 special departments. Currently, the number of readers of these libraries across the country has reached 49,272 people, and the number of visitors is 423,860 people.

The Republican Library for Blind and Visually Impaired Citizens serves as a methodological center for 16 specialized libraries throughout the country.

According to the latest data, the total fund of special libraries of the republic is 1,010,076 books. The book stock increased by 2.5% compared to the previous year.

Special libraries are unique cultural centers that help blind and visually impaired readers and members of their families effectively spend their leisure time, develop spiritual literacy, acquire knowledge and obtain various information via the Internet.

These libraries play an important role in promoting book reading as a source of intellectual and creative development, popularizing the best works of Kazakh writers and developing an interest in reading among children and adolescents.
