The Deputy Commander of the Air Assault Forces, Colonel Rajan Zhanysov, the Head of the Medeu District Defense Department, Lieutenant Colonel Bekmurza Zhusip, and the Chairman of the Almaty branch of the ROO “Veterans of the Armed Forces”, retired Colonel Tulegen Mustafin, came to congratulate veteran of the Great Patriotic War Shangerey Zhanybekov on his birthday.

They presented him with a congratulatory address from the Minister of Defense and the command of the DShV, thanked him from the bottom of their hearts for his military work, wishing him health and well-being.

Shangerey Zhanybekov was born in the village of Karpyk, Denisovsky district, Kostanay region. At an early age he lost both his parents. The orphaned boy was taken in by relatives.

After graduating from the Kustanai Medical School in September 1942, Shangerey Zhanybekov was drafted into the Soviet Army as a military paramedic. He provided assistance to the wounded on the Bryansk, Steppe and Second Ukrainian fronts. He participated in the liberation of Belgorod, Kharkov, Poltava, Kremenchug, Kirovograd, in the Korsun-Shevchenko and Iasi-Kishinev operations, as well as in battles against Nazi troops in Romania, Hungary, Czechoslovakia and Austria.

The veteran was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War, 2nd degree, the October Revolution, the Red Banner of Labor, Friendship of Peoples, “Kurmet”, “Parasat”, medals “For Courage”, “For Active Participation in the Anti-Fascist Struggle” (Czechoslovakia). He is also an honorary citizen of Almaty.

After being transferred to the reserve, Shangerey Zhanybekov continued his career.He was the first secretary of the Kustanai city committee and the second secretary of the Kustanai regional party committee. In 1976, he was appointed Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Kazakh SSR.

As a pensioner, Shangerey Zhanybekov headed the Republican Society for Cultural Relations with Kazakhs Abroad, was the chairman of the Kazakh Republican Council of War and Labor Veterans, and then a member of the presidium of this council.

The life path of Shangerey Zhanybekovich is a vivid example of courage, dedication and loyalty to the Motherland. His contribution to the victory over fascism and the post-war development of Kazakhstan will be forever preserved in the memory of the people.
