Researchers at the Tanbaly reserve-museum made a sensational discovery during excavations in the Kogaly valley conducted by the International Historical and Archaeological Expedition. For the first time, a very rare type of coin was found in Kazakhstan.

According to experts in the field of Turkic-Sogdian early medieval numismatics, this coin has been in use since the mid-7th century. The monuments of the Kogaly Valley, studied by the expedition, belong to the culture of the Western Turks, who inhabited the lands of Semirechye in the first half of the 7th-8th centuries.

Now the first conservation work on this unique artifact is being carried out in the Tanbaly scientific and restoration laboratory.

Note that archaeological excavations are still ongoing.
