National Center for Manuscripts and Rare Books and SAMK: preservation of written heritage

25 June, 2024

Today, at the National Center for Manuscripts and Rare Books, a cooperation agreement was signed with the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kazakhstan.

The initiative aims to identify, collect and study valuable written data held by individuals and mosques in the country, and then introduce it into scientific circulation. The cooperation also includes the creation of joint television projects on the Munara TV channel.

As part of the event, the exhibition “Manuscript - Heritage of Centuries” was presented, demonstrating the results of work to identify and study the ancient heritage. Specialists from the National Center also spoke about the activities of the restoration laboratory, which plays an important role in preserving valuable written data. Among the completed works is a high-quality restoration of the Koran, donated by Maral Ishan Kenesary to Khan.

This year, the center's specialists conducted scientific expeditions in four regions of Kazakhstan and brought back 150 valuable manuscripts and rare books. Thanks to the support of the SAMK, mosques donated a large number of manuscripts from their funds.
