Kazakhstani Youth Choose the Energy Sector: Stability, Innovation, and Career Prospects

17 February 2025

Young people in Kazakhstan are showing growing interest in careers within the energy sector, including oil and gas, nuclear energy, and renewable energy sources. The key motivators are innovation, stable income, and career growth.

The “City of Skilled Professions” Festival is currently taking place in Astana, serving as a platform to introduce career opportunities in Kazakhstan’s energy sector. Minister of Energy Almasadam Satkaliyev visited the festival’s interactive spaces, including the “Energy Street” and “Green Energy House”, organized by the ministry in cooperation with leading industry companies.

The festival covers all key energy sectors—from thermal and electrical energy to oil, gas, and renewables (RES). Interactive booths allow companies to showcase their latest developments and career prospects in each field.

"Our primary task is to ensure a stable energy supply that meets the challenges of our time. To achieve this, we need professionals who combine traditional expertise with innovative thinking. It is encouraging to see young people actively exploring employment opportunities. They are our greatest asset and the driving force behind the future of the energy sector," said Almasadam Satkaliyev.

One of the festival’s most popular attractions is the "Atom Álemi" (World of Atoms) pavilion, featuring four leading nuclear industry companies—Kazatomprom, KAES LLP, the National Nuclear Center of Kazakhstan, and the Institute of Nuclear Physics. Visitors can explore the entire technological process—from uranium mining to a nuclear power plant model. The pavilion attracts up to 1,000 visitors daily, many of whom are interested in nuclear safety and job opportunities.

According to the Minister, Kazakhstan’s universities and colleges are increasingly introducing new educational programs in hydrogen energy, nuclear industry operations, and green technology development. These initiatives open exciting career opportunities for young Kazakhstani professionals. Moreover, the expansion of RES and the creation of a full-fledged nuclear cluster, as instructed by the Head of State, will generate thousands of high-tech jobs in the future.
