Kazakhstani team shows 100% medal count at IBO 2024

The most prestigious international biology Olympiad among schoolchildren, IBO-2024, has ended in Astana. The IBO was first held 34 years ago with the participation of representatives from six countries; this year the capital of Kazakhstan gathered teams from 81 countries. The official closing of the Olympiad took place today.
 
Addressing the participants, the head of the Ministry of Education of Kazakhstan expressed gratitude to all Olympians and the international organizing committee for their high assessment. He emphasized the importance of this event for the entire field of education.
 
“IBO-2024 is not only a competitive platform for knowledge, but also an important international event that helps deepen friendship and cooperation between states in the field of science. I believe that every day spent in Kazakhstan will give you vivid memories and inspire you to conquer new heights of science in the future. I sincerely congratulate the winners and medalists of the Olympics! I hope that in the future you will make great scientific discoveries and continue the glorious path of the great scientists of the world!” noted Gani Beisembayev.
 
It should be noted that following the results of the Olympiad, the inspectors and jury of the International Committee highly appreciated the organization of IBO-2024, also noting the uniqueness and relevance of the tasks developed by Kazakhstani young scientists. For the organizing committee, this was the highest reward for long and diligent preparation.
 
The national team of our country showed a 100% medal count, winning four bronze medals:
 
Galymzhan Baktybay is an 11th grade student at the boarding lyceum for gifted boys “Bilim-Innovation” in the city.Astana;
 
Amina Tynyrbai - 11th grade student at the Kyzylorda regional boarding school "Bilim-Innovation" for gifted children No. 10;
 
Nurtore Torekhanuly is an 11th grade student at the East Kazakhstan Regional Specialized Lyceum for Gifted Children “Bilim-Innovation”;
 
Dias Suleimenov is an 11th grade student at the Aktobe regional boarding school “Bilim-Innovation”.
 
Leaders of the Kazakhstan team: Bauyrzhan Smailov - Master of Biotechnology, bronze medalist of the International Olympiad IBO-2007;
 
Yernar Batyrzhanov is a student at the Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST, Korea), winner of the international and republican Olympiad in biology.
 
The International Biology Olympiad is one of the TOP 7 international competitions among schoolchildren.
 
During these days, Kazakhstan has become a place for exchange of experience for 305 young biologists and 275 scientists from 81 countries. Over the course of seven days, participants competed in two theoretical and four practical rounds in biochemistry, molecular biology, bioinformatics, anatomy, and animal physiology. All tasks were prepared by young biologists from Kazakhstan. Participants and guests also had the opportunity to get acquainted with the sights of the capital, including a visit to the ethno-aul “World of Nomads” in Borovoye, where they learned about the life and culture of the Kazakh people.
