Head of the Government Olzhas Bektenov familiarised himself with the tourism potential of East Kazakhstan region and gave a number of instructions on further development of the industry and increasing its share in the economic structure of the region.
Due to unique natural and climatic conditions the region has ample opportunities for the development of all types of tourism. Today, the beaches of the Bukhtarma reservoir and the Sibinskie Lakes, pantotherapy in Katon-Karagai district, historical sites of the region, as well as ski tourism in Glubokovsky district and Ridder are in steady demand among holidaymakers. Last year the domestic tourist flow in East Kazakhstan Region increased by 2.7% and amounted to more than 350 thousand holidaymakers. The establishment of a visa-free regime between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the People's Republic of China contributed to the growth in the number of foreign tourists.
Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov familiarised himself with the tourist infrastructure of Glubokovsky district and plans for the development of ecotourism. Projects that are planned to be implemented in compliance with environmental standards were presented. Head of the Government was reported on the development of sanatorium-resort, winter, rural types of tourism in the region.
In general, 12 billion tenge of investment was invested in the construction of new facilities and development of the industry last year.
‘East Kazakhstan region has a serious potential for the development of ecological tourism. As outlined by the President, it is necessary to create transparent and stable conditions for attracting investors in the tourism industry. Today the region is working on the implementation of projects involving private investment. I instruct to combine the efforts of the region and the centre in this direction,’ - said Olzhas Bektenov.
Prime Minister focused attention on the need to develop and popularise ski tourism. It was noted that in the national teams of the country in winter and alpine skiing sports most athletes are natives of East Kazakhstan region. For further development of the ski cluster ‘Ridder - Glubokoe’, the Ministry of Tourism has been instructed to assist in the development of winter sports.
Olzhas Bektenov familiarised himself with the measures taken to develop the transport network and air service to unlock the tourism potential. In order to ensure transport and logistical accessibility of the resort region direct flights from Astana, Almaty, Shymkent and Karaganda to Ust-Kamenogorsk have been established. The opening of a direct route from Atyrau is at the negotiation stage.
Head of the Government dwelt separately on the quality of road surface and creation of a modern network of roadside service.
To organise a transboundary route ‘Lake Kanas - Lake Markakol’. Kanas - Lake Markakol’ it was instructed to work on the construction of road surface from Terekty village to Lake Markakol, as well as to ensure the construction of at least 15 sanitary-hygienic nodes along the highways of republican importance, running through the territory of East Kazakhstan Oblast.
