Chinese scientists ready to support Kazakhstan in creating forests on DASB

25 July, 2024

Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Yerlan Nysanbayev held a joint meeting with scientists of Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography of the Chinese Academy of Sciences on the creation of artificial forest plantations.

During the discussion, the issues of planting forest plantations on the dried Aral Sea bed (DASB) to reduce the negative impact on the ecology of the region were considered.

The Minister noted the importance of strengthening mutual cooperation on exchange of experience in scientific research on forest reproduction with scientists of the People's Republic of China, given that China is a world record holder in the size of artificial forest plantations.

It was also proposed that a joint Kazakh-Chinese centre be established to address environmental issues on the dried bed of the Aral Sea.

For more detailed familiarisation with the work carried out on DASB, Chinese scientists left for the Kyzylorda region.
