According to the eQonaq information system, 20,950 foreign tourists visited Shymkent in the first six months of 2024. This number of visitors emphasises the growing attractiveness of the city in the international tourism arena.
Uzbekistan, the Russian Federation and China were the leaders in terms of the number of tourists. The number of tourists from Uzbekistan totalled 9,235, from the Russian Federation 3,286 and from China 2,360. Along with the increase in the number of tourists, the region has also seen a significant increase in the number of single bed beds.
In 2023, the number of beds reached 6,058, an increase of 542 beds from 5,516 in 2022.
‘The increase in the number of tourists in the region is a testament to the significant efforts to improve tourism infrastructure and create a comfortable environment for guests. We continue to work to make Shymkent one of the leading tourist destinations in Kazakhstan and beyond,’ said Nurtas Karipbayev, Chairman of the Tourism Industry Committee.
