The National Scientific Center of Cardiology and Internal Medicine in Almaty has confirmed its compliance with international standards of quality and safety of medical care, having successfully passed the accreditation of Joint Commission International (JCI). The Institute became one of three clinics in Kazakhstan that managed to achieve this level.
Over the course of a week, JCI experts conducted a comprehensive audit of the clinic's work, assessing it according to 1,110 criteria. Particular attention was paid to the handling of high-risk medications and the prevention of hospital-acquired infections, approaches to the treatment and care of patients, the safety of medical processes, risk management and compliance with patients' rights.
The auditors noted the high qualifications of the clinic's medical staff and emphasized that all of the Institute's processes were assessed from the patient's perspective.
As a result of the audit, the JCI team identified several unique practices used in the Research Institute, which were recommended for inclusion in the JCI international library. Among them are advanced approaches to routing pregnant women with diabetes, criteria for continuity in cardiac rehabilitation and standards for bowel preparation for endoscopy.
The JCI recommendation to include these practices in its international library means that the institute's experience can be applied and disseminated in medical organizations around the world.
Thanks to the introduction of new practices and a systematic approach to quality management, the Cardiology Research Institute has managed to significantly improve clinical indicators, increase patient satisfaction and reduce mortality.
