In Almaty, a ceremony of awarding diplomas and badges to elected academicians of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan was held, a correspondent of the Kazinform agency reports.

The election of academicians of the National Academy of Sciences was held in accordance with a three-stage procedure for considering applications from candidates from scientific organizations and higher educational institutions.

- First, the completeness of the submitted documents and the compliance of the candidates with the established criteria and requirements were checked. Then the expert commission made a conclusion on the qualitative and quantitative indicators of each admitted candidate. At the third stage, the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences heard the program of each candidate to determine its relevance, level of novelty, effectiveness, achievability of target indicators and its resource availability, - explained the head of the board of the NAS Akhylbek Kurishbayev.

The candidates who scored the highest number of points based on the results of the examination, received the highest assessment score based on the results of the program defense and for whom at least two-thirds of the total number of academicians participating in the general meeting voted by secret ballot were elected as academicians.

As a result, nine scientists with outstanding achievements in science joined the NAS:

Akhylbek Kurishbayev - President of the Board of JSC "National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan", Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Professor;

Askar Dzhumadildayev - Vice-President of JSC "National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan", Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor;

Darkhan Bilyalov - Vice-President of JSC "Nazarbayev University", PhD;

Serik Akshulakov - Chairman of the Board of JSC "National Center for Neurosurgery", Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor;

Vyacheslav Lokshin - Head of the International Center for Clinical Reproduction "Persona", Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor;

Suragan Durvudkhan - Associate Professor of JSC "Nazarbayev University", PhD, Professor

Maxim Zdorovets - Director of the Astana branch of the Institute of Nuclear Physics, Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor;

Tlekkabul Ramazanov - professor of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, doctor of physical and mathematical sciences, professor;

Erlan Turuspekov - head of the laboratory of molecular genetics of the Republican State Enterprise on the Right of Economic Management "Institute of Plant Biology and Biotechnology", candidate of biological sciences, professor.

Newly elected member of the Academy of Sciences, reproductive scientist Vyacheslav Lokshin has 40 years of experience as a doctor and has devoted more than 30 years to reproductive medicine. He is engaged in the implementation of assisted reproductive technologies in the treatment of infertility.

- Each of the elected is a scientist who has devoted many years to science.The Academy of Sciences creates opportunities for interdisciplinary cooperation, that is, cooperation between specialists of different professions. Today, it is impossible to develop science in one direction. If we look at the Nobel Prize winners, as a rule, these are people who contributed to medicine from genetics, molecular biology, energy and mathematics. Therefore, today the Academy is a platform for communication between scientists of different specialties, - noted Vyacheslav Lokshin. 
The head of the board of the NAS Akhylbek Kurishbayev said that the next stage of the competitive election of academicians of the National Academy is planned to be held in the coming months. Based on its results, the composition of academicians in almost all major areas of science will be formed. 

According to the NAS, over the past 5-6 years, there has been a certain leap in the promotion of domestic science, including among young scientists. In accordance with the instructions of the Head of State, a systemic reform is being carried out in the field of science in Kazakhstan. This year alone, 207 billion tenge have been allocated from the budget for the development of science, which is 39% more. At the same time, the Academy of Sciences prioritizes attracting young people.

The National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan is the only higher scientific organization in the country, uniting leading scientists and researchers in various fields of knowledge.

Earlier, the Minister of Science and Higher Education Sayasat Nurbek announced plans to tighten the requirements for selection to the National Academy of Sciences.

Akhylbek Kurishbayev noted that he does not intend to include public figures, politicians, civil servants or successful businessmen in the NAS.Author Elaman Turysbekov
