The international marathon "Uly Dala Zhorygy" started in the North Kazakhstan region

04 September, 2024

Today, the international marathon "Uly Dala Zhorygy" started in the village of Lobanovo. It is held before the V World Nomad Games. The marathon involves horse racing across the steppe, which will start from the settlement of Botai in Northern Kazakhstan and end in Astana. This unique event is attended by 10 foreign and 9 Kazakh teams, which must cover a distance of 500 kilometers.

The event is a unique opportunity to demonstrate to foreign participants a modern model of nomadic civilization and promote Kazakh culture. The main goal of the marathon-baiga "Uly Dala Zhorygy" is the revival of forgotten horse breeds. Karachay, Kabardian, Arabian, Tatar, Bashkir, Novo-Kirghiz breeds participate in the competition.

One of the key events of the marathon was the traveling exhibition "Botai-Culture of the Great Steppe". Participants and guests of the marathon got acquainted with the Botai culture, which is represented by valuable historical exhibits from the Eneolithic era. It is no coincidence that this exhibition took an important place in the program of the event, because 44 years ago archaeologists made a sensational discovery in the territory of Northern Kazakhstan: evidence was found here that it was on this land that the wild horse was first domesticated.
