The Tazy breed has been recognized by the International Cynological Federation.

04 September, 2024

The General Committee of the International Cynological Federation (FCI) has made a decision on the preliminary recognition of the Kazakh Tazy as an official dog breed and has secured the status of Kazakhstan as the holder of the breed standard,  Kazinform reports with reference to the press service of the Presidential Property Management Department of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The press service explained that this decision is a key and final stage before the full recognition of the Tazy as a Kazakh breed at the international level.

— Today is a historic day for your country and for us. The FCI Standards Commission, as well as the FCI Scientific Commission, after a long procedure, recommended that the General Committee accept the breed. Congratulations! You have 10 years of work ahead of you. During this time, many health tests should be conducted, statistics on the breed, on registered puppies, which will be requested by the FCI Scientific Commission, should be collected. The health and well-being of dogs is currently one of the most important issues. FCI will monitor the systematic development of the breed in Kazakhstan, - said FCI President Tamas Jakkel, commenting on the decision of the General Committee.

The UDP also recalled that the issue of preserving Kazakh dog breeds, as well as their international recognition, has been under their patronage since 2022, on the instructions of the Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The authorized body is the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources.

Over the past two years, amendments have been made to the relevant laws, the Tazy standard has been approved, scientific research, breeding shows and exhibitions have been conducted.

Registration (recognition) of breeds is possible only through national cynological organizations that have full membership in the International Cynological Federation (FCI).

In August 2023, the Union of Cynologists of Kazakhstan, having fulfilled all the requirements of the International Cynological Federation, became its full member and received the right to declare its national dog breeds.

- We have fulfilled all the requirements of the International Cynological Federation (FCI) for the recognition of "Kazakh Tazy" as an independent breed. In particular, large-scale breeding shows were held in different regions of the country, the dogs underwent a comprehensive medical examination, including the most important genetic studies, which, in turn, provided irrefutable evidence of the uniqueness of our breed. The historical review fully covered the origin and development of the breed with more than 4 thousand years of history and finally confirmed the name of the breed "Kazakh Tazy". We held a special mono-breed exhibition, at which members of the FCI Commission on Standards and Science were able to examine 100 Tazy dogs. Based on the results of all this painstaking work, today by unanimous decision of the FCI General Committee, the Kazakh Tazy was officially recognized at the world level. Tazy is an integral part of our culture and history, so we are obliged to make every effort to preserve and popularize the national breed. We are confident that this day will go down in history, - said Bauyrzhan Serikkali, President of the Union of Cynologists of Kazakhstan.
