The opening ceremony of the final of the most prestigious world student competition in sports programming — ICPC World Finals 2024 — was held in the Presidential Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The best teams of programmers from all over the world participate in this grand event every year.
Six teams from Kazakhstan took part in the 2023 ICPC World Finals, which were held in Luxor, Egypt, and Kazakhstani Batyr Sardarbekov won the gold medal, becoming the first ICPC champion in the history of our country. This year, out of 59,000 participants representing 111 countries and 3,000 universities, 142 teams successfully passed the regional and national selection to reach the final. Kazakhstan will be represented by five teams from the country's leading technical universities. This event will be an important step for Kazakhstan in strengthening its status as a key IT hub in Central Asia.
"This is a particularly important moment for Kazakhstan, as we are represented by five teams from the country's leading technical universities. This demonstrates the high level of training of our students and confirms the status of Kazakhstan as a key IT hub in Central Asia. I am confident that such events not only strengthen international cooperation, but also stimulate the development of the IT sphere in our country, inspiring a new generation of programmers. We believe that our teams will show worthy results and continue to develop the IT industry of Kazakhstan at the global level,” said Zhaslan Madiyev, head of the Ministry of Digital Development.
The opening will be the start of a rich program of the championship, which will be held from September 15 to 20 in Astana.The program of events for the championship will include the ICPC Challenge from Huawei, a unique blind-coding master class held by JetBrains and former world champions in sports programming, and other activities. The champions of the 2024 ICPC World Finals will be announced on September 19, after the finalists complete a five-hour competition to solve algorithmic problems using code, under limited time conditions with a minimum number of errors and incorrect attempts.
