19 September, 2024

On September 18, a grand opening ceremony of the branch of the German University of Applied Sciences Anhalt was held in Almaty at the Energo University (Almaty University of Power Engineering and Telecommunications named after Gumarbek Daukeev).

The event was attended by the Consul General of Germany in Almaty Matthias Kiesler, the President of the University of Anhalt Jörg Bagdan, the Rector of Energo University Gani Nygymetov, the Director of the branch of the University of Anhalt in Almaty Eduard Siemens and representatives of the German Science Foundation. The University of Applied Sciences Anhalt became the first German university to teach in Kazakhstan according to German educational programs and issue German diplomas.

The new branch will teach in English in the following specialties: renewable energy, systems engineering, biotechnical and medical systems and devices, energy policy and international trade. It is planned that the first 30 students will begin their studies this year at the expense of state grants and paid financing.

It is expected that grant funding will be increased soon, which will allow even more Kazakhstani students to receive a quality engineering education and two diplomas at once - domestic and European. As part of the training at the branch, it is also planned to conduct intensive German language courses, which will allow students to complete part of their training, as well as industrial practice in Germany."Graduates of the branch will have ample opportunities for their professional development both in Kazakhstan and in Germany and other European countries," emphasized Jörg Bagdan.
Initially, German teachers will conduct training at the branch. After comprehensive advanced training, their Kazakh colleagues will gradually take over teaching. The first five teachers of Energo University are already undergoing an internship at the University of Anhalt. Another ten teachers plan to come to Germany in April next year to take a one-year advanced training course.

"Our university and the Anhalt University of Applied Sciences have a long-standing partnership," noted Energo University Rector Gani Nygymetov.

"Together, even before the opening of the branch, we successfully developed and implemented five double degree programs. And today's event was a logical continuation of these relations. We are confident that our cooperation with one of the leading technical universities in Germany will contribute to the training of high-quality specialists for the economy of our country, who are also ready to compete in the global market."

Earlier, the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Sayasat Nurbek, noted that "Anhalt University plays an important role in the general group of branches of foreign universities opening in Kazakhstan, as an expert in the field of energy and telecommunications. We want to consciously use the experience of this German university in establishing cooperation with industrial companies and thereby attract them to Kazakhstan as industry leaders."
