This year marks 80 years since the opera "Abai" was first presented to the audience.

Nine years ago, the monumental production of outstanding classics Akhmet Zhubanov and Latif Khamidi to the libretto by Mukhtar Auezov found a new life on the stage of the Astana Opera Theatre.
The conductor-producer was Honored Worker of Kazakhstan, laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Kazakhstan, grandson of Akhmet Zhubanov - Alan Buribayev.

"For me, conducting the opera "Abai" is an exciting experience every time, which takes my soul. This brilliant work, where there is not a single superfluous note, is a high example of world classical opera, - Alan Buribayev shared in one of his interviews.

Together with Buribaev, the Italian director Giancarlo del Monaco worked on the production together with the director-consultant Yesmukhan Obayev, the chief choirmaster, Honored Worker of Kazakhstan Yerzhan Dautov, as well as the outstanding set designer Ezio Frigerio and the costume designer, Oscar winner Franca Squarciapino.

The new interpretation of the opera "Abai" conquered the world's leading stages and became the hallmark of Kazakhstan's musical art.

In 2018, the Astana Opera theater was awarded the State Prize of the Republic of Kazakhstan for this work.

The production of "Abai" not only tells about love and the struggle between good and evil, but is also a mirror reflecting the diversity and depth of the Kazakh soul, revealing to the viewer the unique way of nomadic life and the philosophy of nomads.

The audience has already been able to enjoy the classics in the new season of "Astana Opera". On September 24 at 19:00 there will be another showing.

And on October 16, "Abai" will be shown on the new stage of the Bolshoi Theater as part of the International Festival "See Music", which brings together outstanding opera productions from near and far abroad.
