Kazakhstan Introduces New Visa for Modern Nomads Neo Nomad

05 November, 2024

On behalf of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan K.K. Tokayev, a new type of visa, Neo Nomad, was introduced. This visa is intended for so-called modern nomads – foreign tourists who combine work and leisure, traveling and working remotely. The new visa regime takes into account the international experience of more than 50 countries that have successfully implemented similar programs after the pandemic.

To obtain a Neo Nomad visa, a foreign citizen must demonstrate a stable income of at least $3,000 outside of Kazakhstan. Also, in addition to the basic income requirements, foreign applicants will need to have health insurance and a certificate of no criminal record. The visa is aimed at tourists working remotely in various fields, from programming, marketing and finance to consulting, design and e-commerce.

Foreign tourists will be able to stay in Kazakhstan for up to one year, while remaining employed in their foreign companies. This will not only allow them to immerse themselves in the culture and life of the country, but will also bring economic benefits to Kazakhstan. The economic effect of introducing the visa is expected to be about 3.6 billion tenge per year if 500 people receive the visa. Foreigners who use Neo Nomad will live and spend money in Kazakhstan without taking up jobs in the domestic labor market - which is an important aspect of this program.

"As a result of the joint work of the ministries of tourism and sports, foreign affairs, internal affairs and a number of other interested government agencies, Kazakhstan has now become part of the travel map for modern nomads. Their number around the world is more than 35 million, and we intend to create all the conditions for attracting them to our country. Moreover, the cities of Almaty and Astana are already in the TOP-150 cities attractive to neo-nomads," said Minister of Tourism and Sports Erbol Myrzabosynov.
