The opening of the IX International Theatre Festival took place in Shymkent as part of strengthening cooperation and friendly relations between the countries of Central Asia and the Turkic-speaking states in the field of theatrical art
The festival, dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the Shymkent City Academic Kazakh Drama Theater named after Zh. Shanin, was opened by the Chairman of the Culture Committee Kumis Seitova, who read out a congratulatory speech on behalf of the Minister of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
“I cordially congratulate you on the 95th anniversary of the theater! The Shymkent City Academic Kazakh Drama Theater named after Zh. Shanin occupies an important place in the development of spiritual life and national culture. Throughout its almost hundred-year history, the theater has invariably remained a center of professional art, delighting the audience with highly artistic productions. Such masters of art as Khadisha Bukeeva and Amina Umirzakova worked in the theater. And today, the Kazakh Drama Theater continues to delight the audience with its high-quality performances.”
The best performances of theaters from Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkey, Karakalpakstan, Tatarstan, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan will be shown over six days. The festival program includes round tables to discuss performances with leading theater critics, as well as master classes for directors, actors and theater managers, which will be conducted by invited foreign teachers.
The event will last until November 11.
