First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Akan Rakhmetullin received the head of the regional delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Central Asia Biljana Milosevic.
B. Milosevic expressed gratitude to Kazakhstan for the ongoing support of the ICRC in fulfilling its humanitarian mission. She highly appreciated the efforts of the Republic of Kazakhstan to return its citizens from armed conflict zones, in particular from Syria and Iraq.
The Kazakh diplomat emphasized the important humanitarian mission of the ICRC and noted the role of the Geneva Conventions, the 75th anniversary of which the world celebrates this year. Our country's commitment to continuing joint work with the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement was confirmed.
The parties discussed further actions within the framework of the Global Initiative to Enhance Political Commitment to International Humanitarian Law, announced by Kazakhstan, Brazil, China, France, Jordan and South Africa in September 2024 in New York.
The interlocutors also exchanged views on current issues of international relations in Central Asia, Afghanistan and the Middle East.
The ICRC is an independent organization whose main goal is to provide assistance to victims of war, violence and humanitarian disasters around the world. The organization has been operating in Central Asia since 1992, has a Regional Office in Tashkent and a representative office in Astana.
